So in 2004 we combined our backgrounds as a software engineer/web designer and a communications/ public relations consultant and added our experience as parents to create Newmarketbaby.ca. Since then we've continued to update and develop the site to serve the needs of families who use it. Today Newmarketbaby.ca boasts a large and growing traffic as well as a host of newsletter subscribers. Visitors can take full advantage of our online community, including babygear and playgroup exchanges, mompreneur network, childcare connections, discussion groups, online clubs and extensive events calendar, all at no cost. Our information centre offers articles, columnists, newsbytes and the most comprehensive directory of organizations and services for parents in the region with more than 500 listings. |
We hope we've fulfilled our goal and created a site that you will find useful as you raise your baby, toddler or preschooler as part of this community. As your child grows, so will NewmarketBaby. Please keep coming back as we try to develop the site further and add more useful tools.
Best wishes to you and your young family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Newmarketbaby.ca only for parents in Newmarket?
No way! We'll admit we were naive at the onset of this project and thought the name would reflect where the region's babies were born (Southlake). Boy were we wrong. So if you're a parent living as far North as Innisful or as far south as Richmond Hill, this site is for you. Live in Keswick, Stouffville, Kettleby. Tottenham or anywhere in between? Same thing!
What is the principle behind your information centre and editorial content??
Our mission behind creating the information centre was based on the premise that parents are intelligent people who seek and know what is best for them and their children. Therefore we do not adhere to one particular philosophy or promote any one approach to raising a child whether it relates to childbirth, health or any other hot topic for that matter. Our information centre reflects this. If Newmarketbaby.ca can list ALL the legitimate options available to parents then we've done our job.
This same philosophy applies to our newsletters, newsbytes and articles. What we submit to you as information and views are not meant to be preachy. Last thing we need as parents is an extra dose of guilt. Newmarketbaby has the privilege of working with a wonderful set of knowledgeable people who volunteer to share their views. By reflecting on a number of perspectives, we all benefit, even if we don't all agree.
Having said that, we don't just print anything. Our resources and writers are respected members of the York Region parenting community and we do not receive any remuneration for sharing their information with you.
I have a service for parents. How do I get involved with Newmarketbaby.ca?
If you have a quality, legitimate business that genuinely assists new or expectant parents we want you to list with us. Not because we profit in any way from a listing but because, as we said before, having a comprehensive list of resources and options available for parents is what we believe is most beneficial to our visitors. So list with us for free. Beyond listing in our information centre there are other options for getting involved. The opportunities are endless so please contact us so we can talk further about partnering with your organization.
I do see ads on the newmarketbaby.ca site. Please explain how this works.
Yes we do accept ads in the left and right hand columns of our website and newsletter. Our history and current site design shows however that we have not been ad-driven. Content reigns supreme but we do have to consider our operating costs. (and remember this is our baby so we put much more time, money and love into this than we could ever be compensated for).
Can you give your editorial policy in further detail?
There is growing debate about how websites for moms disseminate information that is essentially marketing material. (Us moms have proven we've got a lot of purchasing power and those marketers know it!). So we promise here at newmarketbaby.ca that if there is an ad on this site, you'll know its an ad. In other words if we've received any kind of compensation for a company's mention on our site it will be in our left or right hand columns or will be labeled as a sponsor in our newsletter. From time to time we make mention of local or mom-based businesses that offer great products or services. We do so because we want to support other parents and because we genuinely think you'll agree they are worth hearing about - not because we're sneaking in another ad into what you trust to be valuable, reliable information.
I'm a parent and I would love to get more involved with Newmarketbaby.ca
We've been waiting for you. That is what this site is all about. We're not about one way communication. We want to get parents talking to each other!! So if you have something you want to share there are a number of ways to do that:
Discussion Groups
First and foremost become a part of our discussion groups. They are currently an underutilized resource. Or better yet moderate one of our online mom groups.
Share your Thoughts on Parenthood
Have a burning issue on your mind? We love to print essays, stories and opinion editorials from moms (yes and dads!) about the joys and challenges we all face as parents.
Submit a review of a product, service or book that as a parent, you can't live without. If you are a company or individual wishing to have Newmarkebaby.ca review a local product or service, contact us.
Send us those toddler-pleasing recipes and craft ideas and we'll post them so others can enjoy.
Have a sure-fire way to clean the pureed carrot stain? Share your tips and tricks with other parents at Newmarketbaby and they will thank you!
General Comments
Give us your feedback about the site. How has the site been useful? What should we still add?
I subscribe to your newsletter. Do you have a privacy policy for subscribers?
We do not under any circumstances give out your email addresses to anyone else. If we have a third party who would like to reach our newsletter subscribers, we would do so on their behalf. The email you receive, or any portion thereof, will indicate the third party as a sponsor. The only case where this does not apply is when the third party is a charity we believe our subscribers want to support. If they have an event or fundraiser they would like to spread the word about, we do include that on the site and in the newsletters at no cost (OF COURSE!)
I've seen it all and I've got something to say.
We love love love feedback and constructive criticism. We want to know what parents who visit our site are thinking and how we can make improvements. If you see something that you've just loved or that really hit a nerve, tell us! We're always thrilled to hear how we've been useful…or when we have not. So email us!!! Did we mention we LOVE feedback?
